I am not going to quote anyone, but if you were following the live blog on The Verge or most tech website, the main reaction is that no one really need 41MP camera on a phone. Some even criticized that the Lumia 1020 does not support 1080p screen or the last quad-core processor. As a Windows Phone, I recognize the plethora of apps that is available for iPhone and Android ecosystem, something I wish that Windows Phone has. Nevertheless, in term of hardware, there is nothing I envy that Apple and Android’s OEM are offering now. Windows Phone have some great hardware and the best camera ever on any smartphone. 41 megapixels is better than 10 megapixel, the same way 1080p is better than 720p, the same 700,000 apps is better than 130,00 apps. If you were around when user interface experiments landed on Zune helped set the groundwork for much of Windows Phone’s GUI, there is a historical element at play in this narrative.</span></div><div style="box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">And, personally, I loved the idea behind Windows Phone the first time we got a taste, eventually calling for Microsoft to <a href="http://thenextweb.com/microsoft/2010/12/15/this-is-what-a-windows-phone-7-tablet-would-look-like/#!qmIhs" style="box-sizing: border-box; outline: 0px; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">release a Windows Phone tablet</a> in the pre-Windows 8 days. They did, but they called it Surface.</span></div><div style="box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Still, we need to be careful. That Microsoft has answered the  ”can we beat BlackBerry and become an accepted mobile player” question aside, most of its work still remains ahead of the company.</span></div><div style="box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">As <a href="https://twitter.com/thurrott" style="box-sizing: border-box; outline: 0px; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">Thurrott</a> notes, Windows Phone ended 2012 with 2.8% global market share. It is concluding 2013 with 3.6%, a mere 28.57% increase in a year that we in the media are generally heralding as pivotal in the best possible sense for the company.</span></div><div style="box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">So, what gives? Surely 5% market share is not success for Microsoft. 10% could be, but Apple won’t cede that space, and still builds the best smartphone hardware, while Android has been all but unstoppable in recent years. Missed messages, out-of-sync messages, and blasts of old messages are all too frequent on the service at the moment, but Microsoft is vowing to fix the issues.</span></div><div class="p2 pgh-paragraph" id="paragraph1" style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-size: 14px; line-height: 23px; margin-bottom: 15px;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In an interview with<i> The Verge</i>, Skype product manager Jeff Kunins admits Microsoft is aware of the problems and is working to address them very soon. They mainly stem from Microsoft’s transition from peer-to-peer networks for Skype to cloud-powered servers. Skype has traditionally been used for voice and video calling on desktop PCs, but as the world has moved to mobile Skype hasn’t adapted its own infrastructure quickly enough to handle multiple devices. "It’s not that we’ve been trying our best to be amazing at chat for 10 year and sucking at it, it’s that we’ve been doing a great job doing what we were born to do and now people want more out of us and we’re making the investments to expand and be great at that too," explains Kunins. Kunins couldn’t provide an exact date for the rollout of the improvements, but he promises it’s "pretty soon."
